This band was formed by Krysia Zajac (bass) Lindsay Callaway (guitar and vocals) and Karen on drums in Sheffield. Lindsay and Krysia were both intensive care nurses at the Northern General Hospital where I also worked as a nurse. I was asked to join them and after a while Karen was replaced by John Snow, another intensive care nurse. We couldn’t play for toffee at first but were dab hands at resuscitation!
We started off doing covers, but soon built up a repertoire of our own songs, predominantly written by Lindsay. We did our first gig at the Polish Club in Sheffield after the addition of Lizzie Maratos, keyboard and sax player. John had to leave the band, as he was moving, and Richard Utley joined. This was a bit of a turning point as he added so much to the whole band. We were a band who grew together with everyone getting so much more proficient and gutsy before our demise. The band was always full of laughter. In 1994 we did a load of gigs in a short period of time, culminating at the South Sea Pub in Broomhill, where we really rocked. After that, owing to all sorts of reasons, we gradually drifted apart. Lindsay developed into an awesome singer-songwriter forming the Bande Branche with Richard. Lizzie finished her PhD and moved to London. Krysia stopped playing and I carried on with the Bullfrogs. Richard sadly died of cancer recently.
My biggest regret about this band is that we drifted apart and never actually recorded anything in a studio. These tracks are some rehearsal tapes we did before our first ever gig.
