The Mosquitoes My first ever band formed by Kito and myself in about 1975. We used to jam under the house and one day Kim Ballard, who had heard the row, wandered into the place and asked if he could play drums. We had a fluid line up and at times had Tony Lording on guitar and Vicky on sax. The line up settled down to Eric Porter on lead guitar; Chris Elvidge on sax and the original three members. We did all sorts of weird gigs at free schools, benefits, house parties and the second track, (“I’ve been living here”) is of our first gig that someone recorded on an ancient cassette player at the Two Brewers in Clapham in 1977. This is my first song I wrote for the band and the first time I had played on stage with a band. I had just bought My Gibson L6s and had it on at about volume –3, as I was so scared. Eric kept coming over and turning it up and retuning it for me. The first track is another demo. This band split after Kito and I wanted to play something more powerful after the inception of punk. Some great music though. Kito died of cancer of the liver a few years ago after leaving Matt Bianco and returning to Brazil. He had just started playing music again and was recording an album for Sony when he died. He was one of my best friends and I miss him to this day. Kim Ballard became an accountant and then a film magnate. Eric worked as rigger on big shows and Chris went to live in Paris. |
